Hypnotherapy Weight Loss Program Lose Weight The Easy Way
How To Improve Your Weight Loss Motivation
People who focus on personal reasons for losing weight can boost their motivation and increase their success a
study finds.
Personal reasons include the pleasure from success, looking better, feeling healthier, wearing clothes comfortably that we used to wear.
What are your personal reasons for losing weight?
Psychologists call these personal reasons, intrinsic motivations.
Intrinsic motivations are linked to greater weight loss success.
By contrast, focusing on guilt and pressure from others was found to be less effective for weight loss in the long term.
A control group of over sixty people was monitored by psychologists over a twelve week period.
The results revealed that people who went on to sustain a five percent weight loss were those who focused on personal reasons for losing weight.
The study’s authors wrote:
“It appears that the time period between 4 and 8 weeks may be an important window for weight control programs to consider using techniques designed to enhance autonomous motivation, including giving more intense support or different types of interventions, such as activities to enhance autonomous motivation or contact from a weight-loss counselor in the form of e-mails, phone calls, or face-to-face meetings.
These findings suggest that building motivation may be an effective means of promoting adherence and weight loss.”
You Are Gaining The Right Shape For You By Following These Tips
Following our SCCP weight loss program below, you will be steadily losing weight without too much effort.
OK, we all want to look better immediately, however, crash diets usually predict that we will experience a weight increase over a period of time after the diet.
Research suggests that when we lose weight quickly we are unable to sustain a dramatic change in diet. When we eventually return to our normal eating pattern, we put back on fifteen to twenty percent more weight than we had before the diet.
Why is this?
Our fat cells change shape and store more energy than before!
Why have fat cells in the first place, if I didn't have fat cells I would be slimmer right?
Yes - but vulnerable to starvation.
Our bodies have not evolved to cope with consistently available food and we have lost the ability to be comfortable with being hungry.
It's like this, we need fat cells so that we can store food for when food is not available.
Squirrels Store Their Food Somewhere Else
Supermarkets predict this is now unlikely to happen. We rarely see wild animals in a supermarket, so they have to eat when food is available and survive when when food is not available and this is where fat cells are useful.
Look at it from our bodies point of view, dramatic diet changes are telling your body there is a famine out there, your body is a survival mechanism, it will adapt to the environment, this means that your body will hang on to the stored energy, fat, to save you from the famine.
But I am losing weight, so the diet is working!
Hmmm! You are losing moisture content, and then muscle density, that's why we lose definition when we lose weight to quickly. Your body starts to live on its self to keep you alive.
When we eventually return to our usual eating habits our bodies store more food than we did before in case there is another famine. Hence we increase the bulk on our bodies by fifteen to twenty percent, to protect us from the next famine and yet we can believe that the diet worked because we lost weight for a short period of time.
Test the theory and let me know.
If you have been on a dramatic weight lose program please note the following and let me know:
1) How much did you weigh before the diet?
2) How much weight did you lose on this diet?
3) Six months after the dieting period, how much did you weigh?
4) Now consider, how much weight have you lost on each diet, how much is your combined weight loss and
what do you weigh today.
5) Generally, in the long term, diets do not work.
6) Life style changes work.
Your Worth The Investment
Work Smart Not Harder
By losing one to two pounds a week you are considerably more likely to maintain your slimmer figure.
If one pound a week does not sound like much, consider losing fifty two pounds in a year and with considerable less effort than a strict diet.
Want to lose weight the easy way?
I look forward to talking to you next week but if in the mean time I can help, please feel free to contact me.
Kind regards
James

Only Eat When You Are Hungry.
If you are just the right weight and shape for you, this does not apply to you.
For those who would like to take the weight off their mind, please read on:
Today's Tip
Shadow a friend that is just the right weight and shape for you.
Adopt their behaviour.
If they are slim, you will notice they have certain eating habits.
You will notice that they only eat when they are hungry and they stop eating when they are no longer hungry.
When we eat when we do not need to, our bodies will store that food to be used at a later date.
Generally speaking, if we are eating at meal times and we are not hungry, our body will store the food for later.
Stop Eating When We Are No-longer Hungry.
Generally speaking, If we eat until we are full, we might be eating more food than our body needs for our energy requirements. This inevitably means that our body will store the energy not required as fat, to be used later.
Our stomach is not a fixed sized fuel tank, eating until we are full expands the fuel tank just a little everyday, full today will be peckish next week.
If we use the stored energy on our body, we will lose weight.
Excess weight is a little like a bank savings account, its there if we need it. Keeping your weight bank account in balance is the trick to a healthier future.
Take The Weight Off Your Mind With Hypnotherapy
Due to the current covid issues and the related dangers with being over weight, we have decided to include some weight management help in our news letters.
Today we are discussing how stress contributes to an increase in weight.
STRESS
There is no point in talking about food.
Food is available to everyone.
Not everyone is over weight.
In the coming weeks we will be looking at how lack of sleep, lack of exercise and covert eating habits can adversely influence our weight but today we are discussing how stress can cause weight gain.
How does stress help us gain weight and what is stress anyway?
Simply put, any time our bodies move away from a relaxed range of functioning our bodies will demonstrate a stress response.
Homeostasis is the biological balancing which returns our bodies to an acceptable range of functioning.
Our bodies function within a narrow operational band for optimal performance, when we overheat we perspire, when we are cold we shiver, when we are under threat we move to a flight fight or freeze response, which motivates us to respond and so our bodies to some degree self-regulate, re-balance, for optimal functioning.
When our bodies are unable to self-regulate, naturally return to our biological relaxed state, we remain stressed. Our bodies achieve these adjustments to homeostasis via hormonal change.
These hormonal changes may actually promote weight gain for many people.
Stress is the body’s natural fight or flight response to a perceived dangerous stimuli and can be a life saver in some circumstances. It is a normal function which triggers a hormonal adjustment, however, the so-called "stress hormone" cortisol is released in the body during times of stress, along with the hormones epinephrine and norepinephrine, these constitute the "fight or flight" response to a perceived or real threat.
Following a stressful event, epinephrine and norepinephrine levels return to normal while cortisol levels can remain elevated over a longer time period. Cortisol levels can remain persistently elevated in the body when a person is subjected to chronic stress.
Cortisol has many actions in the body, and one ultimate goal of cortisol secretion is the provision of energy for the body.
Cortisol stimulates fat and carbohydrate metabolism for fast energy, in addition to stimulating insulin release and maintenance of blood sugar levels. The end result of these actions is an increase in appetite. Therefore, poorly managed stress leads to elevated cortisol levels that stimulate the appetite, with the end result being weight gain or difficulty losing unwanted pounds.
Cortisol not only promotes weight gain, but it can also affect where you put on the weight. Research has shown that stress and elevated cortisol levels tend to cause fat deposition in the abdominal area. This fat deposition has been referred to as "toxic fat."
Abdominal fat is strongly correlated with the development of cardiovascular disease, including heart attacks and strokes and of course being overweight increases our risk from covid 19.
Not surprisingly the stress response has many masters, which can be: not enough time in the day, work and family demands, too much time on our hands, not enough personal space, loneliness, procrastination, guilt for doing or not doing something, existential crisis, lack of meaning in our life, lack of sleep and of course being overweight.
Not only will stress deregulate your appetite, you're also going to eat more, because when your brain doesn't have enough time to sense the taste, aroma, and pleasure from the food, it keeps signalling that hunger has not been satisfied.
Stress can lead to emotional eating particularly if it involves ‘no me time’. The problem with emotional eating is that once the pleasure of eating is over, the emotional hunger remains. When you're stressed out, healthy behaviours like eating properly and exercising regularly can easily fall by the wayside.
Not all emotional eating is stress related however.
One study found that overweight women who focused on what they were eating without distraction, were better able to avoid emotional eating and had lower stress levels, which led to less belly fat over time.
Stress can significantly impact your ability to maintain a healthy weight. It can also prevent you from losing weight. Whether it's the result of high levels of the stress hormone cortisol, unhealthy stress-induced behaviours, or a combination of the two, the link between stress and weight gain is glaring.
Cortisol and Metabolism
Even if you aren't eating foods high in fat and sugar, cortisol also slows down your metabolism, making it difficult to lose weight.
In 2015, researchers from Ohio State University interviewed women about the stress they had experienced the previous day before feeding them a high-fat, high-calorie meal. After finishing the meal, scientists measured the women's metabolic rates (the rate at which they burned calories and fat) and examined their blood sugar, cholesterol, insulin, and cortisol levels.
The researchers found that, on average, women who reported one or more stressors during the prior 24 hours burned 104 fewer calories than non-stressed women. This could result in an 11-pound weight gain in one year. Stressed women also had higher insulin levels, a hormone that contributes to fat storage.
Sleeping less: Many people report trouble sleeping when they're stressed. And research has linked sleep deprivation to a slower metabolism but we will look at this in another article.
This coming SCCP Introduction To Hypnotherapy Weekend we will be working with EMDR Plus, which incorporates, EMDR, EFT, NLP and CBT.
This approach is an incredibly effective therapeutic intervention with which to address stress, amongst many other life issues.

Understanding These Five Weight Loss Myths Is The Place To Start
Some commonly-held beliefs about weight loss are simply miss information.
Understanding the full picture before deciding on the life style of your choice is essential to losing weight.
With so much conflicting advice about weight loss, it is easy to be misled and believe you are following
the correct course.
Do not blame yourself.
It is likely that some of the information about weight management you’ve been receiving is inaccurate.
Here we take a look at five common weight loss myths:
Common Weight Lose Myths
1. ‘All calories are equal’
Not True:
Eating a biscuit that has 100 calories will not have the same nutritional value as eating a small fillet of fish with the same calorific value. The biscuit contains ‘empty’ calories that are of little nutritional value. The fish will provide you with protein, essential omega-3 fatty acids and other key nutrients, as well as keeping you fuller for longer.
Nutrient-dense foods, such as fresh fruits, vegetables and lean proteins, are usually high in nutrients and lower in calories, providing us with the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients for our bodies to function healthily.
It is much easier to lose weight and control our appetite when we are eating more nourishing foods.
Research shows that nutrient-dense foods such as vegetables, nuts, whole grains and fruit are more beneficial for weight loss than foods high in processed ingredients, such as white flour and sugar, which are associated with weight gain.
What you can do
• Eat foods that are high in nutrients, such as fresh vegetables, fruit, nuts, seeds, beans, lentils, leafy greens, lean meat, fish, poultry and eggs.
• Avoid processed foods and drinks.

Stop Weighing Yourself
Your weight will naturally fluctuate regardless of your diet
2. ‘Eating fat makes you fat’
Including healthy fats in your diet stimulates your metabolism and helps you to feel that you have eaten, you are more likely to feel satisfied after eating and less likely to be hungry between meals.
Moderately increasing the amount of good fats in your diet and reducing simple carbohydrates (including white pasta and bread) may help with weight loss.
What you can do
• Eat more healthy fats, such as oily fish (including sardines, salmon, herring and mackerel), avocados, olive oil, nuts and seeds.
• Avoid sugar and processed carbohydrates.
3. ‘It is to do with what you eat’
Changing your diet isn't’t always enough.
Other factors can contribute to weight gain.
Stress can make it harder to lose weight. If you’re producing too much of the stress hormone cortisol, this triggers an increase in blood sugar and insulin levels and causes more weight to be stored, particularly around the abdomen.
Emerging evidence suggests that an imbalance of gut bacteria (dysbiosis) can make it harder to lose weight, as beneficial gut
bacteria are required for a healthy metabolism, digestion and appetite control.
What you can do
• Find ways to reduce stress, hypnotherapy is a proven approach to reducing stress.
• Include healthy fermented foods such as live yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut and kimchi in your diet. This will help balance your gut bacteria.
Moderate exercise will
improve digestion
4. ‘Being overweight is your own fault’
Being overweight is much more complex than most think. Blaming yourself will not help, if anything you will probably start to feel worse about yourself and then turn to food to feel better.
A recent report by The British Psychological Society states that most people become overweight or obese as a result of a complex combination of biological, psychological and social factors.
The report emphasizes that people most likely to be an unhealthy weight may have a high genetic risk of developing obesity.
High levels of stress, including major life challenges and trauma, can also make some people more susceptible to weight gain, this can be addressed with hypnotherapy..
There may also be medical reasons. For example, hypothyroidism, a condition where not enough thyroid hormone is produced, affecting metabolism and causing the body to slow down.
Lack of sleep can play a major part in gaining weight. Sleep deprivation affects the hunger hormone, ghrelin which increases appetite, and the satiety hormone, leptin, which makes us feel full.
Sleep deprivation can cause ghrelin to rise and leptin to fall, this will lead to over-eating. A UK review of several studies has shown that sleep-deprived people consume on average, an extra 385 calories a day.
What you can do
• Email me, if you’ve been suffering from insomnia or stress for more than two weeks, hypnotherapy can help you.
5. ‘There’s one single best diet for everyone’
According to a recent study there is no such thing as one approach suits every person, this is certainly;y my belief.
When it comes to weight loss, in fact most issues, there is simply no such thing as one size fits all.
Researchers looked at the responses to meals of 1,100 adults (60 percent of them twins) over two weeks, measuring blood sugar, insulin, fat levels and other markers. The results revealed a wide variation in blood responses to the same foods, and personal differences in metabolism, gut microbiome, meal timing and exercise.
This is only partly explained by genetic factors. The results suggest a personalised approach to nutrition is likely to provide the best results for weight loss.
What you can do
• Forget fad diets, lets discuss a personal approach that will work for you.

Imagination Can Motivate Us To Lose Weight These Weight Loss Techniques Work Considerably Faster With Hypnotherapy Surrey
Latest research has found that people lost weight without any dietary or physical activity advice whatsoever — only psychological therapy, hypnotherapy.
Research reveals, the correct type of mental imagery can help motivate people to lose weight.
People using ‘Functional Imagery Training, hypnotherapy, lost eight times as much weight as those using a different talking therapies.
Imagery training, hypnotherapy, helped people to lose 4.3 cm more around their waist and continue to lose weight afterwards.
Unusually, people lost the weight without any dietary or physical activity advice whatsoever — only psychological therapy, hypnotherapy.
The study involved 141 people who were either given the imagery training as we use in hypnotherapy or a technique called Motivational Interviewing.
The results showed that, after six months, those using the imagery techniques, hypnotherapy, lost an average of 4 kg, while those given Motivational Interviewing only lost 0.7 kg.
Dr Linda Solbrig, who led the study, said:
“Most people agree that in order to lose weight, you need to eat less and exercise more, but in many cases, people simply are not’t motivated enough to heed this advice, however much they might agree with it, this does not address the emotional dynamic regarding eating.
So FIT, hypnotherapy, comes in with the key aim of encouraging someone to come up with their own imagery of what change might look and feel like to them, how it might be achieved and kept up, even when challenges arise.
Dr Solbrig explained the mental imagery techniques they used:
“We started with taking people through an exercise about a lemon.
We asked them to imagine seeing it, touching it, juicing it, drinking the juice and juice accidentally squirting in their eye, to emphasise how emotional and tight to our physical sensations imagery is, hypnotherapists have been using this approach for many years.
From there we are able to encourage them to fully imagine and embrace their own goals.
Not just ‘imagine how good it would be to lose weight’ but, for example, ‘what would losing weight enable you to do that you can’t do now? What would that look / sound / smell like?’, and encourage them to use all of their senses. This approach was originally developed through coaching skills and widely used within hypnotherapy.
After a year, the imagery group had lost 6 kg, while the Motivational Interviewing group had only lost 0.7 kg.
Dr Solbrig said:
“As well as being delighted by the success of the study in the short term, there are few studies that document weight loss past the end of treatment, so to see that people continued to lose weight despite not having any support shows the sustainability and effectiveness of this intervention.”
The study was published in the International Journal of Obesity (Solbrig et al., 2018) and adapted by the SCCP

Lower Blood Pressure
Being over weight increases blood pressure. The bigger that we become the more weight we carry and our bodies increase the network of veins and arteries to the extra weight to keep it alive. This gives the heart more work to do; increasing blood pressure.
Losing weight reverses this process with the resultant reduction in blood pressure.

If you are having trouble sleeping please let me know, we can address this first. Improved sleep patterns generally help in weight loss.
Conversely when we lose weight we generally enjoy a better sleep pattern.
Enjoying restorative sleep.
